Los Angeles Surf Report

Strong rip currents and dangerous swimming conditions are expected this weekend with the National Weather Service issuing a beach hazards statment due to the large swell. Surf heights are expected to be in the 2-5 foot range in Los Angeles County with the largest waves on exposed south-facing shores Saturday morning. The swell will be a mixed west wind and south swell.

Sunday's surf will be similar with a south swell and building west wind swell. Water temperatures for the weekend will range between 65 and 66 degrees.

The interactive map is a water quality report for beaches in dry weather from the past 30 days compiled from data courtesy of Heal the Bay, a nonprofit environmental group. Beach grades are based on an A+ to F scale. Grades indicate the likelihood of swimmers becoming ill. Water samples are analyzed for bacteria – enterococcus, total and fecal coliforms. The report does not measure the amount of trash or toxins found at local beaches.
