Los Angeles County Deputies from Marina Del Rey substation responded to Tueday's 4:51 a.m. incident.
A 15-year-old boy with a baseball bat confronted a parolee allegedly caught burglarizing the teen's Windsor Hills home Tuesday, authorities said today. Responding to a burglary report at a home in the 5800 block of Mansfield Avenue, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Marina del Rey substation arrived to find the boy and his father holding the man, according to a department statement. The boy told deputies he confronted the suspect with a baseball bat and yelled to alert his father, who helped him hold the suspect, who had a knife on him, deputies said. Metro's proposal to tunnel under Beverly Hills High School to bring the subway to Century City is opposed by Beverly Hills school and city officials.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors will meet to review objections to a proposed tunnel under Beverly Hills High School that would allow the so-called Subway to the Sea to reach Century City. The high school and Beverly Hills city officials requested today's public hearing because they believe placing the tunnel under the campus would be dangerous. Metro has recommended a Century City station at Constellation Boulevard and Avenue of the Stars over an alternative stop at Santa Monica Boulevard and Century Park East, requiring the subway to go under the high school. According to a real estate date information company, home sales are slowly rising.
Home sales in Los Angeles County rose by 8 percent in April, compared to the same month a year ago, while prices dipped by 3.1 percent, a real estate information service announced Wednesday. A total of 6,510 homes changed hands locally last month, compared to 6,025 in April 2011, according to San Diego-based DataQuick. The median price of a home in Los Angeles County in April was $310,000, down from $320,000 in April 2011. In Orange County, 2,920 homes were sold in April, up 17.5 percent from April 2011, when 2,485 were sold. The median home price was $420,000 last month, down 2.3 percent from $430,000 in April 2011. The first tall ship in six years sailed into Marina del Rey on Tuesday to kickoff the Marina Fest, a celebration of the marine lifestyle. Bill of Rights, the 1856 replica gaff topsail schooner tall ship, is currently docked at the Del Rey Yacht Club before it heads to Fisherman’s Village, where it will remain through Sunday for public viewing and outings. Shoemaker Skechers USA agreed to pay $40 million to settle a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit over health claims it made regarding toning footwear, the agency announced today. The consumer lawsuit claimed "toning" footwear known as Shape-ups, Tone-ups, Skechers Resistance Runner, and Shape-ups Toners toning shoes were falsely advertised to improve posture, promote weight loss, strengthen the back, improve blood circulation, promote sleep, reduce stress, reduce physical stress on knees, legs and ankle joints, and burn calories. The settlement was reached in conjunction with the Federal Trade Commission and 44 states and the District of Columbia. Southern California Gas Co. warned its customers Monday about a scam in which the culprits tell victims they can get credits on their utility bills if they provide information such as a Social Security number. According to the gas company, scammers have visited customers in person, used social media sites and even sent text messages to victims claiming that President Barack Obama is offering a program of bill credits or direct payment of bills. Officials of Southern California Gas Co. said workers for the utility always carry proper identification when visiting customers, and they do not randomly call or text customers asking for Social Security numbers or other personal information. Home sales face a slight dip in Los Angeles.
Home prices in Los Angeles County jumped by 5.1 percent in April compared to the previous month, but the number of sales dipped slightly, the California Association of Realtors announced today, noting that statewide home sales reached their highest level in more than two years. In Los Angeles County, the median price of a single-family home was $286,800 in April, up from $272,920 in March. Last month's median price was down 1.3 percent from April 2011, when the median was $290,600, according to CAR. Home sales dipped in the county by 2.9 percent between March and April, and the April sales number was 0.6 percent lower than April 2011. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve building permits for several redevelopment projects in Marina del Rey. Legacy Partners Neptune Marina, the developer, will demolish an apartment building on Via Marina and Marquesas Way and build three new condominium buildings. Additionally, Neptune will develop a 114-unit residential facility for seniors in an adjacent parking lot, and a 1.46 acre wetland park with a pedestrian pathway. Two of the new buildings will be 55 feet high and the other will measure 60 feet – or four stories with two levels of subterranean garage parking, providing 909 parking spaces.
