Maybe the Governor can get the Mexicans to release Sgt Tahmooressi since our President is soRead More ineffective.
John Wesley July 25, 2014 at 01:04 pm
Absolutely agree 100%.
KMA July 25, 2014 at 01:29 pm
david- you beat me to it- so I gave you a recommend. Or maybe the Mexicans will trade- Brown forRead More Tahmooressi.

Corporate profits are at record highs - no one is forcing them to do anything, but to obey the law!
George Sedares July 25, 2014 at 01:31 pm
Ah, the level of ignorance never ceases to amaze me. Many of you would sing a different song if youRead More knew that Social Security and work health plans were earned benefits, part of a law or good faith package, incentive package- take you pick.... All you crybabies are so worried now that someone will come into your home at night to take away all that you 'may" have earned . Most of you are doing well and toot the GOP horn. Those that are struggling- well they are like cattle, don't matter, and just corral them and toss them a bail of hay while waiting for jobs to return to the U.S. BTW- Most of this Obamacare is a modified Romneycare that you all conveniently forget to note ! Now go back to sleep. Ignorance is bliss !
Howard Roark July 25, 2014 at 01:39 pm
George -- Soc Sec and Medicare are Ponzi schemes with no assets. The USSC has ruled that we have noRead More legal claim to any benefit at all, and that any money we get is at the discretion of Congress. Both of those are really two separate programs, taxes on the front, and welfare on the back end. They are not savings plans, retirement plans, health insurance plans, or anything else that we have all been led to believe they are. They are frauds. Just thought I'd let you know.
Chris Olivier of Napa with Senator Bob Huff after Assembly hearing.
Michael July 25, 2014 at 12:18 pm
baloney. This is not what our money should be spent on and not what government is for. If peopleRead More need this then they need to provide for themselves. And statements like this are ridiculous “How can they care about teaching us, if they won’t care if a child dies under their care?”. But so many want to claim that taxpayer's money must protect them from almost everything. Baloney. Personal responsibility is what should be taught to all of our children.

It's more dangerous to bring a peanut onto an elementary campus than a joint.
rich olivier July 25, 2014 at 01:06 pm
Mr Pantomath, This child is responsible for himself. He does not even attend public school. AsRead More ignorant as the above statement sounds I hope you will never be put in a situation that you may require a life saving device. Most people that die from allergies are not aware they had them. A surprise bee sting can do it. We already have defibrillators placed for such other such emergencies. If you do find yourself in this position....well I'll miss you. God bless

Saltwater July 25, 2014 at 06:19 am
The last time I was at Canter's will be the last time I will ever go there again. The quality isRead More terrible.
bigfortiesfan July 25, 2014 at 08:48 am
This man is in perpetual campaign mode, still has to sit with PRE-SELECTED dinersRead More to"listen" to their problems. Why not a truly surprise visit? There is nothing nor has there ever been anything presidential about this agitator-in-chief. And with everything going on, at our border and in the world,he gets asked about his basketball game. Pathetic.
Liza Lewis July 25, 2014 at 12:28 pm
Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe it! Thank God I live in Calabasas now. His jobRead More performance as president is as insipid as the quality of food you will find at Cantor's. With all the "legitimate", scandals going on and the world in chaos, the emperor in chief still comes here to pander for money. Disgusting!
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is making a pitch to have the 2024 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Fedra Tamaddon July 25, 2014 at 10:05 am
Yes! that would be wonderful for the city
South Bay Resident July 25, 2014 at 10:13 am
Why? The Olympics is a scam. Everyone knows that. I wonder how many poor people and homeless peopleRead More will suffer if the Summer Olympics is hosted here? Will the mayor round up the homeless from the streets of Los Angeles and ship them all off to Phoenix and Tuscon again? A good way to piss off the mayors of Phoenix and Tucson and their citizens. Wouldn't it be weird if the money used from taxpayers to subsidize the Olympics were instead used to create housing for the houseless? Hmmm...that WOULD be interesting indeed! A dream of course. Oh well...capitalism is far more important...isn't it? We host the Olympics here in Los Angeles, and the police state here will be enormous. Hell, you couldn't even get into downtown L.A. during the Democratic Convention when it was hosted here. I never saw so many deputy sheriffs and police officers and National Guardsmen in my life. All for a corporatized, fake, two-party system that monopolizes the so-called "democratic?" system that clearly doesn't actually exist in this country anyway. Democratic Republic...HA! Boycott the Olympics!
Heinz Niederhoff July 25, 2014 at 11:39 am
Why not? The 1984 Olympics were a success story. The whole city came together. If we can repeat whatRead More we did under the leadership of Peter Ueberroth, it could be a win-win situation for the city and its people. We don't need to build any new major facilities - just some updates. Let us get the right people together, stay out of politics and above all, be confident and believe in your heart that we, all the citizens of Los Angeles, can show the world that we can still do it without subsidies.

The best action one can take to greatly reduce one's water footprint at the individual level is toRead More adopt a plant-based diet. By far, animal agriculture uses the most water in California. Taking shorter showers and adopting other actions to save water is great, don't get me wrong, but a drop in the bucket compared to the water-intensive meat and dairy industries. The world's leading water scientists met at the International Water Institute in Stockholm, and concluded that if we want there to be enough water to meet everyone's needs as our world's population expands to 9 billion and more droughts are predicted, then the world must shift to a plant-based diet. It takes 4000 gallons of water for a day's worth of food for a meat-centered diet, but only 300 gallons for a plant-based/vegan diet. Please think about it and choose water-wise, plant-based foods.
Stuart Ebert July 23, 2014 at 02:34 pm
Some good ideas posted above, some really bad. Building a pipeline from the Midwest WOULD NOTRead More address the environmental degradation that is now under way in CA. And let's understand the concept of POSITIVE FEEDBACK mechanisms in environmental/ climate science. Basically, the hotter it gets, the less precip we receive. The less precip we receive, the drier it gets. The drier it gets, the more trees die. The more trees die, the more fires we get. The more fires we get, the hotter it gets and so on and so on . . . The time for action on climate change was 20-30 years ago. CO2 levels are too high now, and half life in the atmosphere is 100 freaking years.
Virginia Johnson July 23, 2014 at 03:21 pm
All the while the Calif. State, County and Local Governments are trying to charge more for water,Read More penalize us millions of dollars for not conserving Even More than we already have! And...now they want to add at least one-half million dollars in new homes and units with taxpayer dollars to fund for low income housing in Los Angeles that will contribute considerably to the Water Shortage. Also people with swimming pools (I don't): Actually save on water by not having to water their lawns. The Guilt trips by our Feds/States/Counties and Cities are out of this world crazy.

not only TB on the rise but those illegal children are most likely never been immunized, they willRead More be carriers. How awful for women in last trimester of pregnancy and be near a chicken pox illegal. Their fetus will be infected! Or have small pox rise, mumps; to contaminate a early male prepubescent to cause them to be sterile.

Wed July 9th and the police are just now getting around to releasing the suspect's sketch? I live inRead More the neighborhood and would have appreciated the heads up. I read all SM media and never saw anything about this. I guess it's everyone for themselves in east SM.
Nanci Linke Ellis July 22, 2014 at 11:03 am
You are making an assumption that the victim came forward on July 21st. This is not always theRead More case. I'd rather give the SMPD the benefit of the doubt here without knowing all the facts.

James Cobar, well..... I've had the 24 hour stomach flu... a real nasty one. I would be happy toRead More give a thoughtful reply sometime tomorrow, Friday.
James Cobar July 25, 2014 at 02:09 am

I'm impressed. People can still willingly admit to waving their fanatic flag of either AmericanRead More political party? Unbelievable. Never mind that representatives and lawmakers of both parties are equally and miserably corrupt, on the take and incompetent. That doesn't seem to matter apparently. Both parties stink and need to be flushed, along with their yelling adherents, down the sewer. We'd all be better off for it. Personally I don't trust one goddamned thing that American politicians or their operatives say. Neither should you.

Think I will send him my bill for time lost everytime this fool comes to town. Closing the roadsRead More and causing grid lock, making us that need to put food on the table late to work or late getting home. Stay on the East Coast. Stop coming here. Better yet, have a fund raiser to help people who need houses, food and clothing and not for politics. You idiots are rich enough.
Gloria July 24, 2014 at 09:13 am
